In order to promote the mobility of French performing artists, ADAGP and Cité internationale des arts are joining forces to launch the fifth edition of a support programme enabling two artists based outside the Île-de-France region to benefit from a three-month research residency and professional support from Cité internationale des arts.
Although public, associative, and private initiatives have been working since the second half of the 20th century to redress the cultural disparities caused by an overly centralised geography, Paris remains a privileged place for encounters and opportunities. In order to meet the specific needs of artists wishing to draw on the Parisian context and network to further their artistic projects and professional careers, this residency will be supported by the Cité internationale des arts team.
At the end of this call for applications, two winners will be selected. One of the two residencies will be awarded to an emerging photographer (i.e. maximum of 5 years of professional activity) whose project addresses the theme of ecological issues.
What is the residency programme?
The programme includes:
- A three-month residency at the Cité internationale des arts (Marais Site) from September 3 to November 27, 2026;
- D’une bourse de vie de 2 000 € par mois soit un montant de 6 000 € pour 3 mois ;A living allowance of €2,000/month, that is €6,000 for the whole residency;
- Artistic and professional support;
- Networking opportunities with artists of all nationalities, disciplines, and generations in residence, as well as with external professionals depending on the projects of the two recipients.
Who can apply?
This programme is open to visual artists (painters, scuptors, photographers, videographers, performers, comic book authors, etc.) who live in France but outside of Île-de-France and have never been represented by a gallery in Île-de France).
It is intended for artists of the French scene (who have been living and working in France for at least five years) who have never stayed at the Cité internationale des arts. There is age limit.
In addition to evaluating the candidates’ professional backgrounds, the jury will focus on the artistic quality of the project, the value added by this residency in Paris, at the Cité internationale des arts, and the proposed work plan as well as any established contacts or partnerships in relation to the residency project.
What are the application requirements?
The application must be submitted in French. The process is available on ADAGP's application platform.

About the Cité internationale des arts
The Cité internationale des arts is the largest artist residency in the world. Since 1965, it brings together, simultaneously, more than 300 artists of all origins and generations in the heart of Paris, enabling them to carry out creative or research projects in all disciplines (visual arts, music, film, design and architecture, performing arts, exhibition curation, etc.).
Over periods of two months to a year, the Cité internationale des arts (a nonprofit private foundation, recognized as a public-benefit organization under French law) welcomes residents in the Marais district or Montmartre in an environment that fosters creativity, while also providing opportunities for meeting and exchanging with other arts and culture professionals and the general public. The Cité also ensures each artist receives the support they need during their residence.
In collaboration with its many partners, it issues several calls for applications every year on specific themes and/or for specific projects, while developing targeted residency programmes.
Throughout the year, the Cité organises a rich, multidisciplinary and protean arts programme (open studios, exhibitions, concerts, performances, debates, etc.), promoting the work of current or former residents and affirming the role of the residency as a time for dialogue and experimentation.
