There exist numerous support mechanisms offered by national or regional institutions. 

THE DRAC

The DRAC can give grants to graphic novel and comics authors: individual creation grants, allowances for installing a studio and for the purchasing of materials (AIA).

The "agences régionales du Livre"

The "Centre National du Livre"

The Centre National du Livre (CNL) gives three kinds of grants to authors whose works are edited by publishing houses, in printed and in digital versions, so that they may dedicate time to bring about the publication of an individual project: the Discovery grant, the Creation grant, and the Sabbatical Year grant.

The ADAGP programs 

Additionally, the ADAGP has developed prizes, grants and residencies for graphic novel and comic art authors: 

• Révélation BD, in partnership with the Quai des Bulles festival of Saint-Malo, awards each year am emerging artist who both writes and draws (endowment of 5000 €, exhibition at the ADAGP and a video portrait filmed by Arte); 
• Residency in graphic novel/comic arts at the Académie de France à Rome – Villa Medicis and the CIBDI of Angouleme. The winner will benefit from two months of residency in Rome, 2 months in Angouleme, an endowment of 8000 €, as well as accompaniment from the two institutions; 
• A three-month residency at the Fort d’Ivry for creation oriented towards children’s and young adult publications, with the Établissement de communication et de production audiovisuelle de la défense (ECPAD), with 6000 € in financial support; 
• A grant to assist in the publication of a first monography, for author-members of the ADAGP, with 15000 € in financial support.
