Ekphrasis grant

Paragraphs

ADAGP, AICA France and Le Quotidien de l’Art have partnered to establish the Ekphrasis grant, which supports the writing, dissemination and translation of texts written by art critics on the work of ten artists from the French scene.

Ten €2,000 grants are awarded every year to cover the writing of the text and its translation. It aims to encourage an artist and an art critic who have never worked together to collaborate.

How much is the grant?

Ten art critics, each paid up to €1,750 and provided with a €250 budget for the translation of the text, will write a text on the work of the selected artists. An initial call for application is open for artists, followed by a second call for critics who are members of AICA France.

Who can apply?

Artists and rights holders from any artistic field who have been members of ADAGP for at least three years may apply. No critic must have written substantial texts on their work in the past three years (journalistic publications are not taken into account). They must be able to provide at least one text that is more than three years old.

For what kind of texts?

The text must include a short header, be no longer than 5 pages and be between 6,500 and 8,000 characters in length. It may address the artist’s artistic approach and their works.

What are the application requirements for artists?

The application must be submitted online. The process is available on ADAGP’s application platform.
