Until 2021, only a handful of events paid comic book authors for signing sessions.
Since 2022, at the initiative of the SNAC, the Centre national du Livre (CNL), Sofia, the Syndicat national de l'édition (SNE) and 20 festivals (list available on the sofia-bd-dedicaces.org platform) have been experimenting with a flat-rate payment of €238 gross for authors taking part in book signings at these festivals.
This remuneration is shared equally between Sofia, the CNL and the organisation that invites you to the event - the festival or the publisher - and declares your participation.
To receive your payment, you will be asked after the festival to enter your personal details on the Sofia BD Dédicaces platform.
From a tax point of view, and according to decree no. 2020-1095 of 28/08/2020 relating to the nature of the activities and income of artist-authors, "the activity of dedication accompanied by the creation of a work" is treated as the author's principal activity.
It is therefore possible to declare this income as wages and salaries.
