What is AGESSA ?

AGESSA has performed social security management services for the French social security system since 1 January 1978. Under the dual control of the Ministère des Solidarités, de la Santé et de la Famille and the Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication, AGESSA liaises between artists and the public health authorities to determine the conditions of affiliation to the social security scheme for artists/authors and to ensure those covered receive their carte vitale (public health card) and the relevant benefits. AGESSA collects the contributions and dues payable on artistic royalties on behalf of social security. These funds are transferred daily to the Agence Centrale des Organismes de Sécurité Sociale.

AGESSA is responsible for the affiliation to the general Social Security system of artists/authors performing one of the following activities :
Photographer; writer; illustrator of literary and scientific works distributed via publishing; creator of theatrical, film, audiovisual, choreographic or pantomime works; writers of musical compositions with or without words; and writers of software.
