How to get legal advice and assistance ?

Free legal advice can be obtained from solicitors based in local city councils in Paris or at the Palais de Justice. For more information : go to the Ordre des Avocats de Paris website.

The Association de La Maison des Artistes also offers a legal advice service to members of the association.

This government aid is intended to support those who do not have the necessary resources to pay the costs of legal proceedings: legal fees, welfare investigation or expert report fees, court costs, etc….
It can cover all the costs involved if, for 2008, the monthly income for a single person is below €885, or part of the costs (between 15 and 85% of the costs) if income is between €886 and €1,328 a month. When full aid is granted, there is nothing else to pay : the solicitor’s fees and fees of other professionals (bailiffs, experts, …) are paid by the government. When partial aid is granted, the Government pays part of the costs and you pay the rest according to the agreement signed with the legal professional concerned.
The application for aid (form and supporting documents) must be submitted to the legal aid office of the regional court of your address or the regional court where the proceedings are taking place. For more details and to get the legal aid application form as well as a list of documents to be attached, go to www.vos-droits.justice.gouv.fr
