March: the remuneration of book signings sessions

"A life in luxury is coming !"

"If I participate in 10 festivals every year, earning 226€ each time, I could buy a 918 Spyder Porsche in... 334 years. Oh yeah !"

Until 2021, only a handful of events paid comic book authors for signing sessions.

Since 2022, the Centre national du Livre (CNL), the Sofia, the  Syndicat National de l'édition (SNE) et ten festivals (list available on sofia-bd-dedicaces.org) are experimenting with a gross flat fee of 226 € for authors who participate in book signings sessions during these festivals.

In 2023, about twenty additional events should join this experimentation.

This remuneration is shared equally between the Sofia, the CNL and the organization that invites you to the event - the festival or the publisher - and that declares your participation. To receive it, you will be asked after the festival to fill in your personal information on the Sofia BD Dédicaces platform.

From a fiscal point of view and according to the decree n° 2020-1095 of 28/08/2020 relating to the nature of the activities and the incomes of the artists-authors, "the activity of dedication accompanied by the creation of a work" is assimilated to the principal activity of the author. It is therefore possible to declare this income as salary and wages.

In addition, any participation of an author in a round table, a workshop and other activities is generally remunerated. Several organizations such as the Société des gens de lettres (SGDL), the Charte des auteurs et illustrateurs jeunesse, the CNL, etc. offer remuneration scales on their websites.
