The decree of the 28th August 2020, applicable from 1 January 2021 onwards, details the nature of income from main activities and of "side" activities.

The main activities of artist-authors cover income coming from conception or creation, from the usage of or the distribution of an artwork: 

• The sale or the renting of original artworks, including with crowdfunding; 
• The sale of copies of an artist-author's work, of which the reproduction and the distribution is ensured by the artist themself, or when the sale is associated with a person by through a contract at the author's expense and a "à compte à demi" contract;  
• The exercise or the transfer of copyright; 
• The attribution of a research, creation or production grant, the participation in a competitive examination or the response to commissions and public or private calls for projects; 
• Residencies for the conception or the production of artworks; 
• The public reading of their work, the presentation of their work, the presentation of their creative process during public meetings and debates or autograph sessions in the context of the creation of an artwork; 
• The awarding of a prize or of an award for their work; 
• A work of selection or of pre-selection so as to attribute a prize or an award to artist-author for their work; 
• The conception and the animation of an original editorial collection. 

The "side" activities of artists-authors: 

• Classes given in the studio of the artist-author, artistic or writing-based workshops and the transmission of their knowledge to their peers; 
• The participation in public meetings or debates, 
• Participation in the design, development or the creation of an artwork of an other artist-author which does not constitute an act of original creation, 
• Representation by the artist-author of his professional field in certain governance bodies.

Be careful: 
These side activities must in no way be assimilated to employment. Income from side activities is subject to eligibility conditions.
